High Contrast at Cambridge Botanic Gardens

We set a few topics for our CCC trip to Cambridge Botanic Gardens - one was High Contrast Monochrome so I spent some time seeking out flowers and leaves in very contrasty lighting. However, I have decided I like them best in colour.

High Contrast Monochrome at Hunstanton

One of the topics during our day in Hunstanton was High Contrast Mono, which perfectly suited the very sunny day that we had. These are my favourites.

Shuttleworth Swiss Garden Infrared

Last Wednesday, Shuttleworth House and Swiss Garden were open free during Heritage Week. It was a very warm sunny day so I added my pocket SonyRX100 that has been modified for infrared to my kit and was pleased I did. This conversion does not produce the sharpest of images but they are fun to take and attempt a conversion that I like. Here a set using a custom profile that results in a more or less monochrome image with just hints of colour in some areas.

High Contrast Images from Ely Cathedral

Unusually for any event that I organise, yesterday's CCC Points of View took place in hot bright sunshine so it was ice creams rather than hot chocolate on the wish lists. When the images are all in for judging, I will share some of my efforts at the topics, but here are a few images taken in the Cathedral  mostly using light and shadow in the design. The third image is an in-camera double exposure - one of the topics and quite a few Members were trying this for the first time with their cameras.

Sun and Shade at Cambridge Botanics

After a spell of cold cloudy days, yesterday spring cum summer arrived with warm temperatures and bright sunshine. Cambridge Botanic Gardens is at its best as regards spring flowers and foliage. Dicentra is always a good subject on a sunny day as it prefers shady spots, the Magnolias are in full bloom and the leaves and ferns are all unfurling.

Brighton People - What The Camera Reveals

A few more shots from our very sunny, hot day in Brighton; many where I was unaware of nuances in the photos till I downloaded and studied them. For instance, in the first photo, the contrast was so high I was unaware of the figure posing so well  at the fruit machine and, in the second, the symphony in blue. In the third shot, I failed to read the very appropriate 'GIRLS' on the wall when composing the shot and 'Are they twins?' in the fourth image. Otherwise some contrast of Culture and of Generations in the next two pairs, and a couple of Browsers at the many stalls. finishing with a beach scene - an image that really needs to be enlarged greatly and printed to appreciate the huge variety of people Brighton attracts.
