Ripon Cathedral

In Yorkshire again talking to a couple more camera clubs. I have never visited Ripon Cathedral even though a relative by marriage, George Chase, was Bishop from 1946 to 1959. A church has occupied the site of the present cathedral for almost 1,400 years. The present building is the fourth church on the site and has many styles; the gothic West Front and the East Window are fine examples of the Early English style. There are many interesting features including the late fifteenth century misericords, including one of a griffon chasing a rabbit down a rabbit hole, thought to have inspired Charles Dodgson, more famously known as Lewis Carroll, to write Alice in Wonderland. His father became a residentiary canon of the Cathedral in 1852.

Playing with Shutterspeed etc at The Strid

Thursday was the best day weatherwise of my trip so I decided on a walk at Bolton Abbey up to the cascades at The Strid. I had a 10-stop ND filter with me so tried various long exposures; eg. images 3 and 5 1/4 second, images 4 and 6 30 secs). In some cases, I took several different shots at the same settings and then used the HDR mode in LR to combine them to give a softer image (eg image 7 which is four 1/4 second exposures)

Rest in Peace?

I am staying near Leeds/Bradford Airport for the week and took a walk up to the local cemetery which lies under the flight path of the airplanes. I had my small infrared camera with me which I felt worked well for the subject

Waterfalls in Infrared

I like the way the water has been rendered in gold tones against neutral silver rocks etc.
However Paul somewhat spoiled the fantasy by saying it looked more like sewage outfalls. Oh well back to the drawing board.
