Favourite Local Walk

Yesterday, I decided on doing what has been my favourite walk for over 50 years from when I came to live in Toft. It involves no roads but does include hills - a relatively rare feature in Cambridgeshire. The first image is near the start and the furthest point is the top left edge of Hardwick Wood then round to Caldecote Church and back. The sunflowers in the set aside field are looking good this year and the willows along the brook show their silvery foliage in the overcast conditions.  All taken with HDR mode on X100V which produces a raw file for further processing

Wintry Trees 2

During the second half of my walk on Monday, the mist cleared a bit revealing more distant features in the landscape. The sunflowers have just about shed their seeds.

Greenfinches on Our Sunflower Seed Heads

We grew a dozen sunflowers around our bird feeders this year and left the seeds in situ. A flock of 4 or 5 Greenfinches are enjoying pulling out the seeds and cracking them to get at the kernels. Very low light levels and through a closed window so surprised how well they have come out.

Sunflower Field in Autumn Mist

Much as I love Sunflowers when they are in full bloom, I think these softer images of the sunflowers in full bloom are my favourite shots of them. The bejewelled cobwebs and the misty backgrounds all add to the feel of elegant decay.

Morning Mist in Toft

It was a very atmospheric morning in Toft today with the mist hugging the ground until the sun was well up. The sunflower field gave great foregrounds for the misty distant trees (more sunflower portraits to follow).

Infrared Views on a Hot Sunny Day

I was taken with the silhouettes of the golfers while walking beside the Bourn golf course. A few infrared images during a walk from the Kingston Nature Reserve across to Caldecote on a bright sunny day.
