In the afternoon at Whixall, most of the group on the RPS outing concentrated on the abundant wildlife around the pools by the canal at Whixall. My highlight was this Blue Shieldbug laying eggs on a piece of roof felting used as a ground shelter for reptiles etc.

Toft Insects Including First Damselfly of 2022
First Large Red Damselfly today (compares well with 2020 - April 13th but much earlier then 2017 - April 28th and 2021 April 24th ). Other insects -two hoverfly species, a Red Velvet Mite, 3 species of Hemiptera and a House fly and Midge.species.

Hinton Ampner National Trust Garden
On Thursday, we moved our location from Petersfield to Christchurch to explore the New Forest. En route we called at Hinton Ampner a National Trust property with very fine grounds. Here a selection of find from Shield bugs, Large Skipper, Hoverflies, Plant bugs and Sawflies to Spotted flycatcher (a rare bird in Cambridgeshire these days) and young Blackbird

Frensham Little Pond
We visited Fensham Little Pond on a warm morning hoping to see lots of Dragonflies - there were certainly many more around than we had seen previously - Black-tailed Skimmers (male and female), Beautiful Demoiselles (female with 'bombing' male, male),and Broad-bodied Chaser (female). The supporting cast included Reed Bunting, various flies, beetle and bugs.

Lakenheath Bugs, Hoppers and Damsels
A few Shield Bugs, Leaf and Frog hoppers and Variable and Large Red Damselflies from our visit to Lakenheath.
