Hobbies at Lakenheath RSPB Reserve

This page gives some idea of what it was like at Lakenheath RSPB Reserve today with Hobbies hunting overhead - sometimes 8 in a the same patch of sky and some coming close. The most we counted at one time were 25 but some of these were distant. More birds and insect life to follow.

Lakenheath

Lakenheath car park was full up even at 10am when the reserve officially opens. This was due to the presence of a Red-footed Falcon and a Savi's Warbler. We didn't see either but spent an enjoyable day trying to catch on sensor the various reed dwellers - Whitethroat, Bearded Tit and Reed Warbler - and the acrobatic movements of the many Hobbies there.

Buzzards, Heron and Hobby

We spent a couple of hours at Kingcombe Lodge before heading home and were rewarded with views of the Heron, a passing Hobby and up to four Buzzards in lovely light.

Hobbies at Lakenheath

We spent a very enjoyable day photographing Hobbies at Lakenheath RSPB reserve. Incredibly agile birds, the hit rate for in-focus images is very low indeed. I am still waiting to get the perfect Hobby shot where they are catching dragonflies.
