Lakenheath - Great Crested Grebe Family

What a delight on our RPS/CCC Nature Group outing to watch a Great Crested Grebe pair with their three exotically striped youngsters at close range for an hour. At first, we thought there were only two young but a third ones emerged from the adult's feathers when it decided to have a vigorous shake.

Rutland Water Walk 1. Grebes and Egrets

Plenty to see and photograph on our RPS Nature Group outing to Rutland Water though most of it was fairly distant. Here images of Great Crested Grebes at various stages with some pairs on nests, others showing courtship behaviour or arguing over territory. Lots of Little Egrets and one Great White Egret entertained us.

Paxton Pits RPS Nature Group Outing

The weather was disappointing for our trip to Paxton to find signs of spring yesterday - cold and mainly grey. However, we did manage to find a few insects including my first damselfly of the year.

Peregrine St Albans Cathedral

Great to record the Peregrine falcon hopefully nesting on St Albans Cathedral - rather distant but unmistakable! The lakeside birds are all getting ready for breeding with many squabbles and displays.

Grebes, Goosanders and Gadwall

Really beautiful light for the Grebes early on Monday morning at Stanwick Lakes. Great to see a pair of Goosanders on the lake at Stanwick with the Grebes. They were a bit distance when they decided to fly as were the Gadwalls and Grebe eating a Perch.
