Brighton Murmurations

The starling performed really well on Thursday evening gathering in huge mobile flocks around Palace Pier , sometimes flying up again but finally settling.

Brighton Sunrise

Very colourful sunrise yesterday morning - just enough cloud to give interest to the sky and some good pools to reflect it in. Several groups of swimmers braved the water while the air temperature was well below freezing

West Pier Sunset, Brighton

After a rather disrupted train journey due to flooding and landslips, I arrived in Brighton in time for a very beautiful sunset. The West Pier is the roosting choice for a very large number of seagulls and I was also surprised how many people were sitting on the beach watching the sunset. I have a couple of nights here - the legacy of a postponed lock-down booking.

Brighton West Pier - A Sad Tale

I spent quite a lot of time contemplating the sad remains of the West Pier at Brighton which has disintegrated over the years that I have visited Brighton. It was designed in 1863 by Eugenius Birch and was used for over a century before it became unusuable without rennovations which were being actively planned before the Pier tragically burnt down in 2003. It was designed to cope with the impact of the waves and featured an impressive network of cast iron columns and girders to support the promenade. The aerial shot image is as I remember it as a small child visiting from London - it was an impressive structure with fairground, ball room, bingo and more. The sunset was taken in 2001. There is still a very active group determined not to lose its history https://www.westpier.co.uk

Brighton People - What The Camera Reveals

A few more shots from our very sunny, hot day in Brighton; many where I was unaware of nuances in the photos till I downloaded and studied them. For instance, in the first photo, the contrast was so high I was unaware of the figure posing so well  at the fruit machine and, in the second, the symphony in blue. In the third shot, I failed to read the very appropriate 'GIRLS' on the wall when composing the shot and 'Are they twins?' in the fourth image. Otherwise some contrast of Culture and of Generations in the next two pairs, and a couple of Browsers at the many stalls. finishing with a beach scene - an image that really needs to be enlarged greatly and printed to appreciate the huge variety of people Brighton attracts.
