Back at Welney Wildfowl Trust

Welney Wildfowl Trust are open for prebooked visits including the hides and summer walk (the cafe remains closed). We enjoyed a visit there on Thursday on a less than ideal cloudy and windy morning but great to see lots of species that we have been missing during lockdown Avocets, House Martins, Little Egret (seen off by Moorhen) and Black-Tailed Godwits. The house Martins and Swallows were busy catching insects etc from the water surface.

Norfolk Tour - Titchwell RSPB Reserve

Overcast day for our visit to Titchwell gave sympathetic lighting for the Sandwich Terns, Shelduck, Oystercatcher, Brent Geese  and Black-Headed Gulls against the water and sky. It also showed off the colours of the Heron, Reed Bunting and Sedge Warbler. Although at a distance it was great to see Grey Plover, Dotterel and Mediterranean Gulls.

Highlights from the Final Day

Our last full day in Majorca was a hot one so we spent a lot of time in the shade of the hides. A few highlights - Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Purple Gallinule eating, Red Crested Pochard, Eleanora's Falcon, Marbled duck, Avocet fighting as always, Black Winged Stilt, Glossy Ibis preening and Little Ringed Plovers.

Highlights Day One Mallorca

It is difficult to choose just a few images from our first day birdwatching in S'albufera. The Black-Winged Stilts were very territorial though always seen off by the even more aggresive Avocets. There are Nightingales everywhere and a very vocal new species to be photographed - the Great Reed Warbler. Kentish Plover and Little Egret complete the set.

Pensthorpe Natural Park

Many of the species in the wader aviary at Pensthorpe are obviously breeding well. Here a few portraits before the action starts. There are large flocks of Bearded tits, Ruffs/Reeves, Black-winged Stilts and Avocets. Also photographed Redshank and Black-tailed Godwits. Light was not great most of the morning so 3200 iso and these are jpeg files.

Black-Winged Stilts and Avocets from Majorca

These two species were the most abundant on the S'Albufera Marsh and offered photographic opportunities in all weathers and lighting conditions.
