Botanic Gardens, Cambridge 1 Anglesey Abbey 9

The hoverfly on a Helleborine was the only photo that I managed to take before we were told to leave the Botanic Gerdens in Cambridge due to high winds (this is the second time CCC outings have been disrupted by gales at the BGC). Undeterred, we transferred to Anglesey Abbey and joined the crowds on Snowdrop watch. I was using the 100 macro with an extension ring, hoping to get some images for focus stacking but, even where sheltered, the flowers were moving. The closeup of the crocuses is the only stacked image.

Angelsey Abbey Winter Lights

On recommendation from Chris, I booked a tour round Anglesey Abbey grounds during their Winter Lights Festival. Well worth the entrance money - lots of fun to be had with fish-eye lenses, long exposures and multiple exposures plus psychedelic mushrooms and strange lit aliens leaping out of the bushes. Play was only stopped by rain and then not for long.

Anglesey Abbey

A warm day last Friday visiting Anglesey Abbey. The couples walking on the lawns seem to be in a previous era and would certainly have been served well by the extensive range of bathrooms in the house.

Mill at Anglesey Abbey

I took some images yesterday in the Water Mill at Anglesey Abbey using the HDR setting on my Sony. It worked surprisingly well. The monochrome image shows how shadows can be lost by choosing the right channel mix in the Raw converter.

Anglesey Abbey

The light was very dull and the temperature very cold when I visited Anglesey Abbey yesterday afternoon. The very shallow depth of field seems to work well with the bracket fungi on the log walls. A bit of fill-in flash (Sony RX100) with the second tree helped lift the image a bit and picked out the snowdrops. The light was right for the ivy trunks and the strange figure that appeared.

Anglesey Abbey

Beautiful spring-like day today at Anglesey Abbey - couldn't resist mirror imaging the birch trees.
The witch hazel and dogwoods in the Winter Garden were particularly colourful and there were even a few snowdrops in full bloom.
