Day 2 Crete Migration in Progress

A varied day with visits to the Imbros Gorge, Minoan City and a Lagoon by the shore where Swallows, House Martins etc and numerous Waders have stopped off for a rest before continuing northward. The highlight was hundreds of Yellow wagtails of both races in a marshy field. Finishing with a few resident species including the very attractive Sardinian Warbler

Day 1 Chania War Cemetery Insects and Orchids

After a bumpy flight, we arrived in Chania just about on time courtesy of a very strong tail wind. Our first stop on route to Plakias was at the War Cemetery in Chania where there were very large colonies of Tongue Orchids and quite a few insects. We also stopped once more for a leg stretch where there were some Sawfly orchids.

Trip to Crete 1. Gatwick Airport

I am staying on the top (10th) floor of the Premier Inn at Gatwick as the flight goes out early in the morning. After a rainy day the sky has cleared. Hope it will be good weather for the flight

Streets of Cambridge 3. St Andrew Street 1

Yesterday morning, we had a session on our Streets of Cambridge project rephotographing parts of St Andrews Street matching up with 2001-2004 shots (second image in each set). Last 2 are a couple of extra shots from yesterday. Lots of changes to the ownership of shops and, of course, the development of John Lewis and the Grand Arcade.

Both Species Bee Flies at Stowe NT Gardens

I had my lunch break at Stowe national Trust Gardens on may way back from Bristol. There were lots of Bee Flies including my first opportunity to photograph the Dotted Bee Fly (Left, Bombyllius discolor) and well as the Dark-Edged Bee Fly (Right, Bombyllius major). Left I also enjoyed capturing spring lambs and spring flowers!
