Guernsey - Essence of Herm

We were not lucky with the weather on Herm as the thick cloud didn't really do justice to the colours and resulted in a bit of rain towards the end of the day. However, the beauty of the beaches, especially Shell Beach, still leaves a lasting impression.

Guernsey - Rain Stopped Play at the Pools

These are the only shots I was able to keep from the evening shoot at the pools; the rest were spoiled by rain on the lens despite constant cleaning. They are in the order taken with the following settings (for future ref. ISO500)  27 sec f22, 15  sec F22 , 27 sec f5.6, 40 sec f5.6, 17 sec f5.6 (very underexposed),10 sec f5.6 (very underexposed)). We were forced to abandon the shoot when the rain got heavier - probably just as well as Jonathan might well have ended up with very wet feet as the tide was rising

Guernsey: Lihou Island

The tides were right for an afternoon walk across the causeway to Lihou Island: a peaceful place dominated by lichen-covered rocks, flowers and birds. It was an overcast afternoon but this helped bring out the colours and an occasional small break in the clouds gave lovely light around the lighthouse.

Colours of a Guernsey Seascapes

Yesterday was mainly heavy to light cloud but the beautiful colours of the rocks and sea still dominated the scenes on a walk along to the headland at Cobo.

October Workshop in Guernsey - First Evening

We are here in Guernsey on a Landscape Workshop week staying opposite Cobo beach. It looked promising for a colourful sunset until a bank of cloud came up as we got down onto the beach. A bit of compensation with a horse going up and down through the waves - shot at 1/8th second to try and get some movement but, after a first run, it went deeper and hence too slow to pan. Tried my new filters on the seascape - 10-stop and graduated neutral - certainly no colour cast. I also tried some exposure blending in photoshop so the third image is one image at 1 second with the fourth a blend of five 1 sec exposures - to be continued! Final image faster to show waves

Rutland Water - Great Birdwatching Site But.........

It is many years since we visited Rutland Water for bird watching and were impressed at the changes they have made to the reserve at Egleton. We walked round lagoons 1-4 and, in addition to hundreds of the common duck species, saw Red Crested Pochard and American Widgeon. There were lots of Little Egrets and 6 Great Egrets (juvenile with yellow beak shown here) and a Bittern on constant display in the reeds). However, it was all at a great distance other than this Blackbird gorging himself on Berries, a Heron and a Cormorant.
