London Walk: King's Cross to Camden Lock. II Gasholder Development and Park

The Gasholder Development is part of the King’s Cross redevelopment, which is the largest urban redevelopment scheme in Europe. It comprises a conjoined triplet of gasholder guide frames, first constructed in 1867, now being converted to apartments with a starting price of around £900,000. The metal grills slide to give complete privacy and cut heat transmission. They look over the Regent canal with its narrowboats and also Eurostar railway.The adjoining Gasholder Park was opened in 2015. A circular lawn sits inside the guide frame of a Grade II Victorian gasholder, Gasholder No. 8, Constructed in the 1850s, Gasholder No. 8 once formed part of the largest gas works in London, and was a familiar landmark until it was decommissioned in 2000. The fragile 25 metre-high circular guide frame, which has an internal diameter of 40 metres, was painstakingly dismantled from its old location, where Pancras Square is now, in 2011. It was then reerected in 2013 its new home, next to schools and apartments in the Plimsoll Building and the triplet of Gasholders.

Focus Stacking Fungi at Brandon

On Friday, visited Brandon again, this time with 3 CCC friends and spent several hours upside down attampting to Focus stack small fungi. It is the best year for fungi that I can remember with the ground just carpeted and with lots of intact Fly Agarics.

London Walk: King's Cross to Camden Lock. I Granary Square

On Saturday ten Members of CCC enjoyed a wonderfully warm and sunny day in the King's Cross/Camden area of London. While five Members set off on the Underground for Camden Market, our party planned to walk to the same destination. We started at Granary Square and the King's Cross Basin of the Regent's Canal. The Granary building houses the Central St Martins Art School with the main attraction over 1,000 choreographed fountains. To the left of the Square they are developing the Coal Yard - I spent a long time on the various structures and how they are preserving these. We eventually dragged ourselves away to start the walk along the Canal.

RSPB Reserve at Fowlmere

 A cloudy morning at Fowlmere produced only Greylag and Canada geese, an Egret and a hovering Kestrel. Could do better!!

Fungi at Brandon Country Park Last Week

Off to Brandon today and realised didn't post last week's visit. Splendid number and variety of fungi  from the Porcelain in the first shot to the delicate ink caps. Using Fuji with 10-24 or 50mm lenses.

Grey Heron at Lackford

A very obliging Heron in pristine plumage entertained us at Lackford on Saturday.
