Epping Forest Trees and Fungi

Autumn is certainly running late this year with the trees still fully green and very few fungi around. It was very bright and sunny yesterday for my walk in Epping Forest before returning home after lecturing to Chingford PS  (thanks for your warm welcome). So a few creative attempts plus the only two fungi species that I was able to photograph

White-Water Swimming in Guernsey

My final photosession  in Guernsey was at the bathing pools - it was high tide with a strong wind so good conditions for waves but you would not think for swimming. However,  a couple of men and then two teenagers braved the waves for a bracing dip.

Les Vardes Quarry Guernsey

On Monday, we took the nature walk that has been opened around Les Vardes Quarry in Guernsey. I have always enjoyed large scale 'industrial' landscapes so enjoyed watching and photographing the operations there!

Time-Lapse Movie of Waves

While I was in Guernsey, I experimented with a time-lapse movie of slow-shutterspeed images of waves. Each frame is 1/8th sec

Nature Walk Guernsey

David took me to visit the hide at La Claire Mare nature reserve on a warm sunny afternoon. There were lots of butterflies around - very striking Small Coppers and lots of  Speckled Woods. From the hide we had good views of Greenshank, Dunlin, Egrets and Teal. After a walk along the coast, I headed ended up photographing the very many insects on the Ivy flowers. The Hornet Hoverfly was particularly striking for it large size and colouration and I also enjoyed the striped bee Colletes hederae which has only in recent years spread through southern England as far as  Staffordshire

Guernsey South Coast Shores. 2. Moulin Huet

The sun was obviously in the wrong position to get a good view of the Pea Stacks from Moulin Huet - immortalised in the Renoir Painting but I enjoy using a Big Stopper filter to slow down the shutterspeed and capturing colours in the sea and rocks. A couple of monochrome conversions to see what the potential is for this medium.
