Welney Floods

Lovely sunny morning but by the time we got to Welney it had clouded over and the light was pretty poor. The Reserve is completely flooded with only the main hide open. Opportunity for a few flight and behavioural shots until Meredith decided to try for a closeup.

Peak Cavern, Derbyshire

We finished off the holiday with a trip down Peak Cavern. This has the largest cave entrance of all the caverns and used to be occupied by several families of rope makers. It is almost entirely natural but, unlike other cave systems in the area, does not have stalagtites.

More Peak District Scenes

A few more photos from Thursday, which start with an early morning view of Parkhouse Hill near Hollinsclough, followed by two images from Bakewell,  views at Longshawe Estate including Peter and Holly with Wrinks and Ollie and images of Magpie Mine as the sun went down.

Hollinsclough Colourful Dawn

After yesterday's rain, a wonderful colourful sunrise today with just a touch of mist in the valleys. The light remained golden until the hills were almost fully lit.

Hollinsclough Mist and Rain

The day started with thick mists over the hills, which cleared somewhat as the heavy rain arrived. Very atmospheric but not great for walking with or without cameras.

Hollinsclough Rain and Shine

Our holiday cottage is surrounded by beautiful peak district views. Today we walked the local track in both rain and later sunshine so two lots of comparison shots of the views. The rainy walk was with Peter and the dogs and later with Phil when the rain decided to stop and the sun show a late appearance.
It was very windy Sunday night so the final picture is of a huge tree that came down just along from us and miraculously fell between the outbuilding and the cottage

Poole Cavern Buxton

A very wet day here so seemed a good day to visit Poole's Cavern in Buxton. Poole's Cavern is a 2 million year old, natural limestone cave on the edge of Buxton. It was opened to the public in 1853 and today is owned by the Buxton Civic Association.
