Transport in Vienna

For our one full day in Vienna, we purchased a 24 hour travel card and made full use of it on the U-bahn. It also covered the tram and bus system but, unfortunately not the horse-drawn carriages. There are still some original stations in their architecture as well as very modern ones and, similarly, still some old style trams - apparently very uncomfortable with wooden seats.

Prague Underground

The Prague Underground is simple to use (as long as you check on the direction of travel), clean and efficient. Surprised how many dogs were travelling on the trains today.

Leaving Berlin For Prague

This morning we left Berlin by train for Prague. There was enough time to photograph the many-layered Haupt Bahn Hof. The final image is our train arriving ready to take us to Prague - 4 hours 30 minutes.

London Kings Cross

The newly completed King's Cross entrance is stunning from the song wall outside to the Western concourse with its vaulted roof -Europe’s largest single span station structure. As to whether  photography is allowed - the guy in blue spotted me looking up at the roof with my camera - not allowed! OK if you are photographing friends in the concourse! So on the way back in the evening another session with no problems this time - I wondered if including myself as in last shot would make it legitimate.

Dawlish

I decided to bring and use my infrared camera on this trip as it looks like being bright and sunny at least for a few days. So here are a few monochrome conversions from Dawlish. You definitely step back in time in the station and the train track runs right along the seafront.

The Railway People

We spent yesterday on the Keighley Worth Valley railway in the company of Alastair, Bev and Rowan - great to meet up. The first trains of the day are diesel so we travelled to Haworth on a Waggon Und Maschinenbau single coach railbus unit M79964, built in Germany in 1958. Rowan is busy watching the approaching steam train at the Damems Loop where the single track becomes double to allow passing. We then had a muddy walk to Oxenhope - well all except Phil who travelled on the train. This is his train, the British Railways Ivatt Tank No. 41241. It was built at Crewe in 1949 and ended service at Skipton in 1965. The locomotive hauled the train at the reopening of the branch line in 1968 and has been working ever since. We all travelled back on the 41241
