Under the Pier

I am spending the weekend near Clacton for a postponed Bird Watching cruise from Brightlingsea tomorrow. Yesterday afternoon the sun came out for a short while and I made use of the light to investigate the world under the pier. There are abundant textures and colours but I mainly concentrated on the  'underwater world' and small glimpses cameos.

Saffron Walden Churchyard

Yesterday we took part in a photohunt in Saffron Walden - more images to follow of other locations. I had with me my Fuji compact and a pinhole lens. The first image is a composite of a poppy from the compact and a pinhole image of the gravestones. Images 2,3 and 5 are pinhole images - all the rest are from the Fuji compact with a couple monochrome conversions as the sunlit areas just asked for a high contrast conversion. The final two to show the dominance of the church over the town and its tall steeple as depicted in a vertical panorama of 5 shots

Dovercourt in Monochrome

It is difficult to resist converting images of the cast iron etc structures at Dovercourt into black and white images so here a few that I like in different light conditions (all Lightroom conversions).

Dovercourt Iconic Lighthouses

We visited the Dovercourt lighthouses on Friday evening and morning and evening on Saturday. Here a few of the shots as taken - difficult to adjust colour on my laptop.

The cast-iron lighthouses were built by Trinity House in 1863 and were used until 1917 to guide ships around Landguard Point - when the two lighthouses were aligned it showed you were on the right course.

Harwich and Dovercourt

We are in Dovercourt for the weekend helping run an RPS Walk today so a preliminary wander around Dovercourt and Harwich. Here are a selection of shots in bright clear light. Today we are forecast high winds and showers so it will be a very different experience, so watch this space.

Black-Tailed Godwits

The late afternoon sun and the clear storm air revealed the full beauty of the Black-Tailed Godwits' plumage as they fed, bathed and slept all to a very rough water backdrop. Shame I didn't pick up focus on the front bird in the 'dragonfly' formation flight.
