Bugs, Beetles and Hoppers at Lakenheath

It was overcast and quite cool at the start of our RPS visit to Lakenheath though it did warm up in the late afternoon. There were lots of different insects and spiders to find, photograph and identify though not in the usual large numbers there. Here is a selection of Hemiptera, Coleoptera and Orthoptera (Pentastoma rufipes Forest bug; Picromerus bidens Spiked Bug; Coreus marginatus Dock Bug; Lygus pratensis; Hetercercus fenestratus; Oulema melanopus Cereal leaf beetle; Blepharida rhois Leaf beetle; Anthocomus rufus flower beetle; Philaenus spumarius X 2 Meadow leaf hopper ;  Conocephalus fuscus Long-winged Conehead; Tetrix subulata SlenderGround Hopper)

Lark Rise Farm Barton

Although the insects were far fewer than last year, we did find a good variety of species some like the Beetles on the Carrot seed heads were numerous. Here a few 'portraits' of the more attractive species (depending of course on your appreciation of the insect world!!). The minute Tephrid flies (4mm) with their irridescent eyes were a particular challenge as they didn't stay still for long

Summer Leys Northampton

Common blue Damselflies were abundant on Monday, many of them making short work of reducing the rest of the insect population at Summer Leys, such as this Green Leafhopper - one of my favourite faces in the insect world. The plant bugs proved the most photographed group in terms of species, followed by the flies and then the bees. I photographed a distant raptor thinking it was a Hobby but turned out to be a Peregrine!

Garden Insects - Devising Catalogue System

With the drastic changes to our climate that we are witnessing at the moment, I am trying to record and then systemise the insects etc in the garden. I want to have the image and its suggested ID displayed in a single image. These are using Lightroom print module to display the title field of the metadata with the image. These are the flies, bugs and beetle recorded yesterday; hymenoptera, spiders etc to follow! In retrospect, the date would be useful and perhaps location
