Insects etc in Infrared

Using a macro lens on my infrared-converted camera, reveals features not seen using a normal camera such as the eyes on the spider and the pollen grains on the fly body.

IR Images, Fen Causeway Area of Cambridge

Some images taken with my Canon IR-converted camera on a walk back to Grange Road from the Botanic Gardens. A dull day but this seems to suit this camera giving very muted colours. Adjusted only in lightroom (no profile used).

Infrared Tales (Tails?) of Toft

However long you (ewe) wait, there is always one that will not face the camera!. These sheep in the field next to our bungalow are always inquisitive if you stand at the gate. Images taken with my SonyRX100-converted camera - no great clarity but I do like the other world feel to the images. The These are RAW files with no profile or colour changes made - just adjustment to 'Tone' and 'Presence' sliders in the Camera Raw panels of Lightroom. I think this would only work on a very dull day.

Infrared Cloudscapes in Toft

I took my infrared camera for an outing around our local fields but, unfortunately, the battery only lasted for a few shots (it is now 16 years old; canon 1D mkII). Very clear light and great cloud formations.

Yesterday, we did a different local walk through a very large Barley field over the hill to one of the local golf courses. It was windy and cloudy when we started but the skies later cleared giving much more contrasty conditions. 

Watching the Skies

After a mostly cloudy day, the skies cleared in the early evening to give a beautiful clear end to the day. We walked up to the radio telescopes at Barton to check out the route for a CCC outing on Thursday and I couldn't resist a few IR images. Very interesting scarecrow!!

People in Cambridge

I often photograph people when using the infrared camera as the result is totally unpredictable. for instance the ladies on the bridge and the one in the avenue all had black coats but synthetic materials are rendered pale by the IR. Glad to see that Trinity College supplies natural fibre suits and hats to their porters.
