Unexpected Encounter

I visited Hayley Wood late afternoon yesterday to photograph butterflies and on my way back encountered this Hare on the track ahead. He looked around, decided OK to feed and then after another look around came towards me, stopped, then came even closer filling the lens. As I zoomed out to the 100 mm end of the lens he spotted me and was off!!

Barton Dragonfly Pools

I paid a brief visit to the dragonfly pools at Barton yesterday morning - there is a lot less water than previous years as the vegetation has grown up. There were Emperor, Southern Hawkers (no photo) and Common Darters. Just a few hurried shots plus a retreating Hare and a Heron.

Toft Safari

Spending more time in our home locality has provided lots of opportunities for wildlife spotting and photographs. Last week on my early morning walk, I spotted four hares in a wheat field - too far away for great shots but still good to record. The Four-spotted Chasers are emerging from my pond now and displaying well. Add to these, lots of mating Hoverflies, very bristly Empid flies, minute Long-horned moths and at least three species of Shield bugs and there is plenty to keep the camera (photographer) exercised.

Gurteen Bay and Cemetery

The rain continued all through Thursday, so we were only able to take short outings onto some of our favourite beaches. Gurteen Bay was a new beach for us with the wonderfully sited small cemetery. tucked between a hillside dotted with cottages and the broad stretches of sand at Gurteen and Dog's Bays. I only took my 50mm macro lens as it has a good hood and is manual so when a couple of Hares appeared fairly close, I could only do a distant shot. Most of the images are panoramas of several vertical shots.

Sunset Stroll

A few images from a sunset stroll in nearby Barton looking for the Barn Owls. It was too cold to stay long so contented ourselves with some Hares and a Yellow Hammer.

Havergate Hares

Great location for Hares - shame about the weather. It started raining as we left Orford Quay and got heavier as the day progressed. The Hares were fairly obliging to start with and even a bit of chasing and mating but soon all they wanted to do was shelter from the rain so we did the same.
