Arrival at Skavsta Airport Sweden

I left Stansted on time this morning on my journey to Stockholm. We arrived on time at Skavsta Airport in a snowstorm! The next leg was the Flybus to Stockholm - around 2 hour journey.

Crosby Beach on a Gloomy Day

The weather deteriorated further on Friday afternoon when we visited the Anthony Gormley 'Another Place' exhibition figures on Crosby Beach. No attractive sunset and beautiful colours for us but, perhaps, the sombre light better suited the figures, especially with their coating of barnacles.

Spot of Red in Liverpool

What are the chances of a lady in red with white hair passing a festive white topped pillar box (which played Jingle Bells when you post a letter!)? The Telephone boxes are available as a retail outlet - coffee bar or the like!!

Red Squirrels Success Story

The Red Squirrel population at Formby was decimated by a Pox virus a few years ago but with careful management the numbers are steadily increasing. The National Trust don't use feeders anymore so that infection can't spread that way. Unfortunately it was a particularly dismal day when we went to visit last week so it had to be F2.8 iso 3200 and whatever shutterspeed (125-500th sec) would give a reasonable exposure.  It is amazing what these modern cameras can come up with under these conditions.

Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

The cathedral is based on a design by Giles Gilbert Scott, and was constructed between 1904 and 1978. The total external length of the building is 207 yards (189 m) making it the longest cathedral in the world. In terms of overall volume, Liverpool Cathedral ranks as the fifth-largest cathedral in the world. I think for me it would rank as one of the ugliest but I am sure many people would not agree. I couldn't get an exterior photo I liked so have borrowed one.
Photos included of the 27-foot-high sculpture, made of more than 100,000 knives, outside the cathedral. The knives were the result of collection points for knives confiscated from individuals by 43 police forces across the country.
