Kew Gardens 2. Trees in Infrared

After my recent previous visit to Kew, I decided to take my infrared camera for the wonderful old trees. Here are a series showing how the images change as the sun got higher - by midday there was so much infrared light around that getting contrast in the images is very difficult but I do like the ethereal feel this gives. More of the buildings and structures in a later blog

Kew Gardens 1. Contrasts

Lots of photographic subjects at Kew today, so first a set of high-contrast images where colour, light and shade dominated.

Green-winged Orchids

I visited this meadow near Wymondham, Norfolk at about the same time last year and was pleased to find the orchids just as good this year. It is a beautiful meadow fullof Buttercups, Saxifrage and Lady's Smock with many areas of Green-Veined Orchids. The variance in colour and flower shape is noticeable.

Snetterton Stage Rallying

We attended a new type of event - Stage Rallying with the final round of the 2015-16 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship. Each of nine rounds had a different layout and included off-track areas. Not the most exciting sport to photograph but I was practising with the Fuji, trying to master panning with an electronic viewfinder. The first two are taken at 1/1000 sec - static shots; the other pair are panning at 1/250sec

Know your Camera Workshop - Droplet Photography

We had a lot of fun with dropping ink into water yesterday at the workshop. Before I put the equipment away, I had a play at home - here are a few of them. The main problem for me was focus but the colours made up for it. The droplets on twigs was less successful - still work to do there to get a good large drop to stay long enough to photograph the background through it.

Water Drops for Next Workshop

It took longer than I hoped to build a rig to drop water onto a water surface and photograph it but think I now have a fairly consistent result so hope the participants at the CCC Workshop on Saturday can get some satisfactory results.
